WND Headline: Homeland Security on guard for 'right-wing extremists'

WASHINGTON – A newly unclassified Department of Homeland Security report warns against the possibility of violence by unnamed "right-wing extremists" concerned about illegal immigration,increasing federal power, , restrictions on firearms, abortion and the loss of U.S. sovereignty and singles out returning war veterans as particular threats.

The report, titled "Right-wing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment," dated April 7, states that "threats from white supremacist and violent anti-government groups during 2009 have been largely rhetorical and have not indicated plans to carry out violent acts."READ MORE>>>

Let me just say to all of you spooks out there that this news is very troubling to me, and I'm perplexed to why it's not troubling to you as well.

First of all, let me clear a few things up for you.

I am not a white supremacist. I believe like many 'right-wing-extremists' that we were all created in the image of God, and frankly I cringe every time someone tries to label people as anything other than human. I am a member of one race (and one race only), the HUMAN RACE.

I am not a violent anti-government group nor am I a member of any afformentioned groups.

I am not against government; although, I do feel that we have too much government. Our government is a bloated and festering wound on the side of Lady Liberty. Here in lies the problem. Liberty and Government directly oppose each other. Government wants more control and Liberty wants less control. Yes, you can have liberty and government, but it's much like walking a tight rope. A careful balance must be achieved and then maintained to assure that we stay as citizens with liberty and not subjects owned by the government.

So you're probably wondering why the 'Right-wing-extremist' title then?

My name and URL was spurred by the late great Barry Goldwater and the perception that those that support American Sovereignty, Liberty, Gun Ownership, Smaller Government, Federalism, a Right To Life, and other Constitutional Issues as "right wing extremists".

Dept. of Interior: Bill of Rights Still Apply in Federal Parks

The Department of the Interior finally made their ruling regarding right to carry in National Parks. Apparently, not all those in government are drinking the whole "guns kill" kool aid.

At first, I confused the Interior's rule change with Virginia's proposed rule change that the VCDL was campaigning for.

The VCDL was the first to point out the commenting period of the Virginia State Forestry Association, and I'm proud to say that I (along with more than 1,000 others) respectfully submitted comments regarding why we believe we should not be forbidden from legally exercising our right to protect ourselves in Commonwealth parks.

However, despite the obvious differences of State v. Federal parks the rules were pretty much exactly the same. Both were regarding the lawful carrying of a concealed firearm in accordance with existing state laws. It's important to understand that allowing one to do something they already do, but just in new areas, does not make anyone more dangerous contrary to what some would have you believe.

Do you feel more or less safe knowing that any wacko can bring a gun into a Utah mall and shoot you despite the laws that forbid him from bringing a gun into that mall or murdering people?

Now ask yourself do you feel more or less safe knowing that a law abiding citizen that

• is mentally sane
• has never been convicted of a felony or violent crime
• has never been dishonorably discharged from the military
• has successfully passed a federal background check
• is not a fugitive of justice
• is not an unlawful user of illegal or prescription drugs
• in some cases has completed state required training courses to carry a gun
• is not an alien in the country illegally
• has never renounced their citizenship

has the ability to carry a concealed firearm and may very well be the person that stops a murderer from taking your life?

However, I feel the commenting period flew low under the radar (I didn't even hear about it until just this morning when I read a NY Times Editorial). Sometimes things work out in spite of your action (or lack of action in this case). This would be one of those times because I'm ashamed to admit that I wasn't there to register my comments.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Fish and Wildlife and Parks Lyle Laverty today announced that the Department of the Interior has finalized updated regulations governing the possession of firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges. The final rule, which updates existing regulations, would allow an individual to carry a concealed weapon in national parks and wildlife refuges if, and only if, the individual is authorized to carry a concealed weapon under state law in the state in which the national park or refuge is located. The update has been submitted to the Federal Register for publication and is available to the public on www.doi.gov.

Existing regulations regarding the carrying of firearms remain otherwise unchanged, particularly limitations on poaching and target practice and prohibitions on carrying firearms in federal buildings.

“America was founded on the idea that the federal and state governments work together to serve the public and preserve our natural resources,” Laverty said. “The Department’s final regulation respects this tradition by allowing individuals to carry concealed firearms in federal park units and refuges to the extent that they could lawfully do so under state law. This is the same basic approach adopted by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the United States Forest Service (USFS), both of which allow visitors to carry weapons consistent with applicable federal and state laws.” READ MORE>>>

Former anti-gun Representative completes firearms instruction course

A friend of mine recently made me aware of this great article and great news regarding Rep. Michael DeBose (D - Cleveland) who was mugged last month.

If you have a few minutes, give the article a gander, because "it's not often a politician admits he was wrong."

It isn't often that a politician admits he was wrong. It is even less often that a politician acts on his new convictions so immediately and publicly as has Rep. Michael DeBose (D - Cleveland) in the weeks since he was made victim by armed criminals in an attempted mugging last month.

...This was a tremendous outreach endeavor. This was a group of individuals that the pro-gun community would have never, in a million years and a million dollars of mailings, have reached. Twelve-plus hours of instruction, and they are now ambassadors for self-defense in their community forever. The next time they are at a function and someone spouts some anti-self-defense Toby Hoover-style nonsense, it will be no surprise if several from this group call them on it. They really do think a lot like us, they've just been afraid to express it.

Not anymore.

This is some truly uplifting news. I haven't heard anything about it on the MSM, so I wonder if it has gotten any airtime outside of Ohio.

Let's just pray that more politicians are moved to this point of humility where they'll admit that they were wrong.
